Every child has a style and it is likely to change often.Kids love to dress themselves and this exploration starts early in the toddler years. When dressing for Kindergarten , let you child continue to “find their style” .Whether it is a million layers and an “off to Coachella” look or clothes over the night gown in a more “Granny Chic” look, let your child be themselves. Let the child pick the school outfit, as long as the choices fall within the school guidelines. Offer your help of course , but no one is judging your parenting based on their clothes ( although I would make sure clothes are clean and comfortable enough to be on for the length of the day) .If you think their clothes choices will make others “comment”, or laugh you may want to role play and help your child arm themselves with responses. From my experience in Kindergarten, kids are not “mean” in their comments and commentary yet. With older students, they will likely still view this age group as “cute” .The creative style will get many comments from adults and that will probably build the child’s confidence and encourage their desire to continue to be creative.
