Metamorphosis

I use metaphors often when I am explaining development to parents and to children. I love frogs so you may see frog references throughout my blog. I’ll share more about my special history with frogs later.

Kindergarten is a year of such huge and amazing changes.  Metamorphosis  has two or more distinct phases. I like to think, in Kindergarten, I get guppies and at the beginning of the year.By mid-year kids are transitioning , getting their “land or school” legs and in the end ,I send  frogs on to first grade. Physically ,the kids grow so much but the development of skills is  astronomical . Children gain confidence,  mental and motor skills , vocabulary and a sense of responsibility, The simplicity of the drawings in the early weeks , the printing, the reading skills, the communication skills,  the changes in  voice,  focus,  interests… ,I could go on and on about all the areas of rapid progress and change .It is an incredible year of growth, don’t blink ! I encourage parents to hold onto a few things from the beginning of the school year ; take photos , take video and compare them to the end of the year – the change will blow you away !
